Welcome to all Vandia Gardens Resident Association (VGRA) residents and an especially big welcome to all who are new to our community.
The VGRA Committee is a positive initiative which started small with a few caring volunteers in 2000. The VGRA consists of an established group of suburbs namely Vandia Grove; O’Summit; Bryanston Ext.5 and Beverly Gardens (approximately 400 households).
A question which is often raised amongst us all – “who is the VGRA and what do they bring to the table?” Over the following pages we would like to provide you with a brief synopsis of the VGRA’s function. We appeal to you to take some time to read ALL pages in the attached detailed welcome pack, which serves as a community hand book. In the current environment we often feel confused as to the direction the government takes and it is wonderful to know that we can be involved with our own community and try to direct our community in a unified and purposeful direction. Knowledge is power.
We would like to emphasise the word COMMUNITY. The term community (taken from Wikipedia): 1): “Community usually refers to a social unit larger than a small village that shares common values / a broad term for fellowship or organised society”. We have a select group of volunteers (elected every year at the VGRA annual AGM), who choose to offer their time and commitment to YOUR community/village. I think in a country where we find ourselves surrounded by walls and fences, it doesn’t give us an opportunity to establish a community and to get to know our neighbours. Our most powerful ally and supporter are our neighbours and community. Often your neighbour is first on the scene in trouble. The VGRA offers a platform for us all to get to know our neighbours and empower our community. The overall objective is to build pride in our area by upgrading facilities and educating residents to the importance of community living, with the long-term objective of enhancing and improving lifestyles and property values.
